Global Initiatives

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) aims to define and improve high-quality, high-value cancer care around the globe, including Europe.

NCCN has a large active presence in Europe with more than 140,000 registered users and nearly 720,000 NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) downloaded in 2018.

French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish translations of NCCN Guidelines® are available on the International Adaptations & Translations page.

NCCN exhibited at the 2017 and 2018 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Annual Congress highlighting the many global solutions and resources that NCCN has to offer.

At the 2017 ESMO conference, NCCN also presented a poster titled, “Resource-Stratification of National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) Head and Neck Cancers Guideline”. The poster described the need and reasoning behind the creation of the NCCN Framework for Resource Stratification of NCCN Guidelines (NCCN Framework™) for Head & Neck Cancers: Lip and Oral, as well as the process and the results of said creation.

NCCN hosted several global events in Europe. In 2017, while in Madrid, NCCN hosted the NCCN Global Patient Advocacy Engagement Roundtable, a panel discussion for Patient Advocates in Europe to address disparities and best practices for ensuring the patient voice is always heard. In 2018, NCCN hosted the NCCN Global Academy for Excellence & Leadership in Oncology™ and the Global Corporate Council Meeting in Munich, Germany.

Poland

In April 2017, NCCN leadership presented the differences between Patient Centric Care and Patient Advocacy in the United States and presented the NCCN Guidelines for Patients® during the first International Congress of Patient Empowerment, which was held on 24 – 25 April at the Polish Olympic Committee Center in Warsaw, Poland.

In addition to presenting, Robert W. Carlson, MD, Chief Executive Officer, NCCN, met with the Polish oncology community leadership, advocacy organizations, Ministry of Health, and the U.S. Embassy staff in Warsaw to discuss NCCN’s global role in health care.

Spain

NCCN is collaborating with La Fundación para la Excelencia y la Calidad Oncológica (ECO) to adapt NCCN Guidelines for Spain and translate them into Spanish.

ECO is a leading association in Spain, formed by medical oncologists, with the commitment of improving quality care for cancer patients, promoting excellence in clinical assistance, investigation, and training.

“The collaboration with ECO will significantly impact patient care and remedy an unmet need for oncologists and other clinicians in Spain and other Spanish-speaking regions,” said Robert W. Carlson, MD, Chief Executive Officer, NCCN.

“ECO and NCCN share many principles and values, and this agreement will help to improve quality care for Spanish cancer patients through the translation and regional adaptation of clinical guidelines,” said Carlos Camps, MD, President, ECO Foundation.
